We want to make local history alive and accessible, and give municipalities a simple tool to share it.
Much of our heritage sits out of reach: in archives, on signs few people read, or in stories that are not passed on. We believe it deserves to be experienced where it belongs, outside and on location. The Kulturjakten association was founded in 2024 with a clear purpose: to make cultural history more accessible and engaging for a broad audience. The technology behind Kulturjakten is developed by Link Utvikling AS, and the project got its start back in 2023 through innovation funding from the City of Bergen. Kulturjakten is the only application ever to have received support from the Norwegian Cultural Heritage Fund.
Kulturjakten is an IPN project (Innovation Project for the Industrial Sector) supported by the Research Council of Norway, with researchers from Vestlandsforsking on the team. An Innovation Project for the Industrial Sector is a business-led research project where a company develops new products or services in close cooperation with research institutions, part-funded by the Research Council. For Kulturjakten this means the storytelling should be not only engaging, but also academically grounded and trustworthy.
We use AI to draft content and speed up the work, but a human always has the final say. This is called human-in-the-loop: the AI suggests, and the editor quality-checks and approves before anything is published. Safety and trustworthiness underpin the whole solution, and it is entirely optional for the municipality to use the AI tools. AI does not replace expertise, it frees up time for it.
We want Kulturjakten to be safe and accessible for everyone. That is why we build to universal design requirements and handle personal data in line with GDPR.
